Mergers and Acquisitions Manager

Job Description

The Business

Our client is a fast-growing renewable energy platform focused on the development, acquisition, construction and operation of clean energy assets across Europe. The business is backed by long-term institutional capital and is actively expanding its portfolio across utility-scale solar PV, onshore wind, battery energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects.

With a strong pipeline of development-stage, ready-to-build and operational assets, the company is continuing to scale through both organic development and strategic acquisitions. As part of this growth, the business is looking to appoint an M&A Manager to support the origination, assessment and execution of investment opportunities across European renewable energy markets.

The Role

The M&A Manager will play a key role in the company’s growth strategy, supporting the acquisition of renewable energy projects and platforms across multiple European markets. The role will involve leading financial analysis, coordinating due diligence workstreams, preparing investment papers and supporting negotiations through to transaction close.

This is a highly visible position within the investment team, working closely with senior management, development, technical, legal, finance and external advisory teams. The successful candidate will be expected to combine strong transaction execution capability with a practical understanding of renewable energy project economics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the origination, evaluation and execution of renewable energy M&A opportunities across solar PV, wind, battery storage and hybrid assets.
  • Build, review and maintain detailed financial models to assess project returns, sensitivities, acquisition pricing and investment structuring.
  • Prepare investment committee materials, including valuation analysis, transaction rationale, risk assessment and recommendation papers.
  • Coordinate commercial, financial, legal, tax, technical, grid and regulatory due diligence workstreams.
  • Work closely with internal development, engineering, finance and asset management teams to assess project deliverability and value creation potential.
  • Support negotiations with developers, vendors, co-investors, lenders and external advisors.
  • Review transaction documentation, including NDAs, process letters, term sheets, SPAs, SHAs and development services agreements.
  • Analyse market dynamics, including power prices, route-to-market options, grid constraints, regulatory frameworks and competitive positioning.
  • Track acquisition opportunities, market activity and potential strategic partnerships across target European markets.
  • Support post-acquisition handover into development, construction, financing or asset management teams.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will likely have experience in M&A, investment, corporate finance, project finance or transaction advisory within the renewable energy, infrastructure or power sectors.

They will be commercially minded, technically curious and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where investment decisions require both strong financial analysis and practical judgement.

Required Experience

  • Experience in M&A, investments, project finance, corporate finance or transaction advisory.
  • Strong financial modelling skills, ideally with exposure to renewable energy or infrastructure assets.
  • Understanding of renewable energy project economics, including development risk, capex, opex, merchant exposure, PPAs, grid, construction risk and financing structures.
  • Exposure to solar PV, wind, battery storage or broader energy transition assets would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to manage due diligence processes and work with legal, technical, tax and financial advisors.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear investment papers and board-level materials.
  • Confident stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across internal teams and external counterparties.
  • Strong attention to detail, commercial judgement and ability to manage multiple live workstreams.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within an IPP, renewable energy developer, infrastructure fund, investment bank, Big 4 transaction team or specialist energy advisory firm.
  • Experience working on project acquisitions, portfolio acquisitions, joint ventures or development-stage renewable energy transactions.
  • Knowledge of European renewable energy markets.
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage, hybridisation, grid connection processes or route-to-market strategy.
  • Additional European language skills would be beneficial but are not essential.
